Acids and Bases

What you should learn:

You should learn that acids/base chemistry can be understood by applying principles of solutions (dissociation), bonding (lewis structures) and equilibrium (Keq). You should also be able to describe various characteristics of acids like how they react, how they are formed, etc and perform calculations to determine pH of strong and weak acids and bases. Your test will be broken down into the following objectives: Definitions, Properties (including period 3 trends), pH scale, and Strong vs. Weak designations and calculations. We will also touch, again, on acid rain and how it is formed.

    In this video, she shows at least 9 examples that range in complexity. Once you get the idea you can skip ahead to minute 8:30 where she shows how to handle amphoteric species. There is also a good tip at minute 8:15 about which Ka to use for multiprotic acids!
